Prompt Engineering
Prompt engineering for Instagram means giving an AI enough real examples and rules that its captions and scripts sound like you instead of a statistical average. Generic output is usually an input problem, not a model problem. The guides below cover what AI reads in your writing, how to build a reusable voice brief, and where manual prompting hits its limit.

What to know about Prompt Engineering
- Five to ten real on-brand captions in a prompt beat any tone description, because examples carry rhythm and word habits that descriptions can't.
- A four-part voice brief covers five voice adjectives, one on-brand example, one off-brand example and a short list of always and never rules.
- Function words, like "you" versus "we" or opening with "honestly", are stronger style markers than the big vocabulary choices you agonise over.
- Generate five to ten drafts on different topics, flag what feels off, adjust your examples and regenerate, since voice improves with iteration.
Common questions.
01Why does ChatGPT sound generic even when I describe my style?
Because a style description isn't a voice profile. With no real examples, the model falls back on the average of its training data. Pasting five real captions gives it your sentence rhythm, word habits and hook style, which a line like "casual and witty" can't carry. The gap between zero and five examples is bigger than between five and fifty.
02How do I check whether an AI draft actually sounds like me?
Read it aloud, then score it on five points. Does the opener match your usual hook style? Is sentence length varied rather than suspiciously even? Is the CTA phrased in your words? Does emoji use match your archive? Does at least one line sound distinctly like you? It takes about three minutes and tells you what to add to your brief.
03What's the limit of doing this with prompts alone?
A voice brief has no memory between sessions, so every new chat starts from scratch, and it has no link to what's performing in your niche. Tools that build a persona from your own reels or writing samples keep that context and can tie it to competitor outlier data. Octupie works this way, writing scripts in your style.
